About

Amir is a Senior Partner at S. Friedman, Abramson & Co. with over 30 years of experience practicing maritime law. He is widely respected and known in the industry for representing ship-owners, charterers and all of the major P&I clubs and foreign insurers in admiralty litigation, before the Israeli courts, as well as through international arbitration held abroad.

In 2019, Amir was lauded by international legal directory Chambers Global as “the highest authority in Israel for marine matters” described as “very down-to-earth and always proactive” and “a business-minded lawyer with a lot of knowledge in the field”.
His practice includes maritime claims, arbitration and litigation. He has represented local shipping companies and time charterers (such as Zim and Dead Sea Works) on several matters including arbitrations with vessel owners at the London Maritime Arbitrators Association. Amir’s extensive client roster also includes longstanding clients for whom Amir acts as general legal advisor, such as the Israeli Chamber of Shipping, which represents most of the Israeli shipping agencies and companies operating in the Israeli ports, and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Haifa and the North, which brings together manufacturers, industry and service providers to spearhead the economic development for northern Israel. Within these roles, he advises said clients and their members, including domestic and foreign shipping companies, on a variety of regulatory issues before the legislature bodies, the Ministry of Transport and the Israel Antitrust Authority.

Amir’s comprehensive expertise in all areas of maritime law (on and off land), includes claims relating to cargo damage, insurance, vessel collisions including pilotage and salvaging, general average, as well as civil and criminal lawsuits regarding marine pollution. He also handles disputes related to the enforcement of creditors liens before the Admiralty Courts, mortgage enforcements as court receiver of vessels to be auctioned by the court, and advises on litigation and arbitration in Israel and abroad. Amir regularly advises on the drafting of charter parties, joint ventures, vessel sharing agreements, slot charter parties and overall shipping agreements, maritime liens, and much more.

Among numerous industry positions, Amir was appointed Vice President of the Israeli Association for Maritime Law affiliated to the International Maritime Committee (CMI) and is the secretary of the Israeli Carriers Conference, responsible for cargo deliveries from marine carriers and members of the Conference of US military to Israel, under supervision also from the U.S. Department of Transportation and the Federal Maritime Commission (FMC).

Amir regularly lectures on shipping and marine insurance topics in Israeli academic institutions, local banks, national Chamber of Commerce, The Export Institution and others, and is the author of several professional articles published in international maritime law publications. With a vast wealth of experience and a strong global network of relationships with leading shipping law firms worldwide, Amir continues to provide the best all-around professional and reliable advice to domestic and foreign clients in the field of maritime law.
