About

Roiy is a partner in the Litigation Department.

Roiy specializes in commercial and international litigation, with a focus on admiralty and maritime law. He appears before courts in Israel and also advises and represents clients in arbitration proceedings before international tribunals, including the London Maritime Arbitrators Association, the International Chamber of Commerce, and the Korean Commercial Arbitration Board.

Roiy regularly represents some of the world’s leading shipping companies and specializes in enforcing maritime liens, handling maritime accidents, and cargo claims.

In addition, Roiy specializes in advising on infrastructure and energy projects, including national railway projects, rail infrastructure, and offshore energy infrastructure (platforms and rigs).

Roiy has led several landmark cases, including:

  • A precedent-setting ruling in the case of the vessel THOR HORIZON, in which the Supreme Court held that shipowners may enforce an exclusive foreign jurisdiction clause even when they were not direct parties to the carriage contract.
  • FEYHA MARITIME LTD v. Miloubar Feed Mill Ltd.: a rare Supreme Court decision granting a “third instance” appeal and overturning contradictory rulings of the Magistrate and District Courts, holding that only a claim filed by a party entitled to do so interrupts the statute of limitations under the Hague-Visby Rules.
  • A precedent-setting ruling in PRAXIS ENERGY AGENTS v. the vessel VICTORIA, in which the Supreme Court held that where there is doubt regarding the cause of action for enforcing a maritime lien, the basis for vessel arrest is undermined, and ordered the cancellation of the interim arrest order against the vessel.
